Amphibious Assault: It’s dancey. It’s dark. It’s poppy. It’s aggressive.

The project features the silky (and at times yelly) vocals, tinkering synths, and heavy guitars from one-woman army Fallon Bowman, former guitarist of the all-female Juno- nominated metal act Kittie.

Influenced by the 808s of the 1980s and military marching drive of Industrial of the 1990s, the music evolved out of Bowman’s increased interest in synthesis and programming and her discovery of european darkwave/industrial music. Marrying this with her distinct vocals and guitar work, the project represents a blend of influences that is definitively alternative, but catchy and relatable.

After the debut album District Six (2003), Bowman collaborated with other projects in the industrial music genre, most notable of which is her work on industrial supergroup Pigface’s 2003 release Easy Listening For Difficult F***heads, helmed by post-punk legend Martin Atkins. This work was followed up with On Better Days and Sin-Eating (2006), garnering the project a sort of underground quality that music nerds froth at the mouth about, with it being entirely self-released and promoted online and by word-of-mouth. Both District Six and On Better Days and Sin-Eating, dealt heavily in themes of love, loss and on political themes like Apartheid South Africa and the War on Terror.

The project’s latest 2021 release, Simulacrima, builds on previous themes and explores everything from female empowerment to artificial intelligence. The release, funded in part by her die hard fans, is the culmination of a year’s worth of effort, and proudly features artwork, photography, and audio engineering exclusively done by women. Singles from the album expertly weave together genres, from the gut-punching punk anthem “Electropunk'' to the Depeche Mode-esque synth-ballad “Truthbomb”. The album is available on all digital channels now. Music videos and a tour are planned for Summer 2021 and Spring 2022, respectively.
